Local vets help beavers become animal lovers

A group of Beaver scouts from Newport are one step closer to achieving their Animal Lovers badge thanks to the help of a local veterinary practice.

Malpas Road-based Budget Vets has donated £270 to the 1st Rogerstone Beaver Scouts to help fund a trip to Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo in Pembrokeshire.

The day trip to West Wales will enable the 19 beavers to complete a number of activities needed to gain the Animal Lovers badge including undertaking a tour of the zoo, feeding the animals and observing the animals in their habitats.

On making the donation, Director of Budget Vets, Peter Heathcote said: “We are delighted to be able to help fund this trip to help 1st Rogerstone Beavers gain their Animal Lovers badge. It is important that children learn how to care for animals and appreciate that pets need food, water, shelter and exercise to survive.”

Added scout leader, Sue Messenger: “The beavers have been working really hard towards their badge and Folly farm provides a fun learning environment where the boys are able to interact with the animals through a number of different tasks.

“I cannot thank Budget Vets enough for their generous contribution which has allowed the trip to take place. We are looking forward to a wonderful day out.”
